What if you could make a game about the adventures in space according to the principles developed by Diablo?
Rebel Galaxy . Kosmos, is not it? Just look at the pictures. Planets, asteroids, ships, battle and the rest of the menagerie. Fajowe. He immediately brings to mind various games like Elite: Dangerous, Starpoint Gemini , and perhaps even FTL or cult Space Rangers . And rightly so. Rebel Galaxy has much in common with them. But at the pictures and movies you can not see that this happens production is based on completely different principles than the classic space simulations. This is because it served as the foundation gameplay concepts developed by entirely different species, usually associated with climates fantasy and massive carving of creatures in order to loot their corpses. Yes, Rebel Galaxy is a Diablo in the cosmos, in which instead mighty warrior or mage we have a space ship. And that’s why it looks different. But the game itself, as in any good action-RPG. Moreover, no surprise it is, if one takes into account that the game are responsible Travis Baldree and Erich Schaefer, ie two men who first separately formed Fate and Diablo precisely, and then you together two parts Torchlight .
It is good to have the old, hard aunt who used to be a space pirate. Or, if you look at it from the other side, quite unfortunate to have the old, hard aunt who used to be a space pirate. It all depends on whether we get caught up in a big, dangerous adventure in which we will have to deal with an element, margin, ancient The artificial intelligences, and far too many missiles, laser beams and cargo plasma inevitably aimed in our direction. I wanted. I always want. The slogan “Space Adventure” immediately take out of the closet monocrystalline knife, old jeans impregnated by stellar dust, accusing sack on his back and ask where this quay in the port space.
Rebel Galaxy from the role-playing masterpiece, unfortunately, is not. Neither is Mass Effect and Nexus Jupiter Incident , nor even mentioned Space Rangers 2 , where the script was based on a disarmingly funny side missions. The main thread of the plot in Rebel Galaxy is not especially weak, on the contrary, as the story is not so bad. But it did not help her at all divide it into a string of mission-style bring, take out the, sweep from point A to point B. The story, not a bad total, is relegated to second place. And it’s probably the biggest flaw Rebel Galaxy because in this way the authors denied themselves the most effective tool to motivate the player to continue. If the story more prominently if there were more heroes, if the game gave the tone, tempo, dynamics and meaning, that it would be able to keep the man from the screen and the keyboard more than the twenty or thirty hours. Maybe even to the end.
Rebel Galaxy is fun, do not get me wrong. We travel between the planets themselves, visit the stations, we undertake to perform various missions. We trade even a little and enter into any binding interaction with the living world. And a lot, really a lot of fight, as befits an action-RPG. And all this is done very well. Not great, but very good. Well enough to give the game a substance. And I have fun for hours. The deeper into the forest, however, will enter the space, the more we realize that there is only more stellar trees. The same things on the edge. Rebel Galaxy is based on very solid foundations in terms of gameplay, but basically already in the first few hours we will see everything the game has to offer. And then we’ll just repeat the same steps. Yes, we get to other star systems. Yes, the missions they will be more extensive. Yes, we will do them for different factions and organizations. Little depth here. But basically it all comes down to is still the same scheme is still the same mechanics. To fight. Terribly cool and spectacular fight, it’s true. But even this can eventually get tired and bored if it is not supported. The player needs motivation. Can spend hundreds of hours in performing exactly the same actions, if only motivation would be well conceived. Indeed, you can spend hundreds of hours on activities that go tired and frustrated, if only it would be something was pushing forward. Do not believe us? And you played in World of Tanks ? Haaa, that’s it.
But returning to the Rebel Galaxy – here the motivation is fragile. Not that she was not there at all. Is. A little thanks to the poorly outlined the plot, a little bit due to the simple human curiosity, and partly because he really fun to be here shoots with in the space battles. But it’s all enough to keep the interest and commitment at the highest level. After several hours of delicious fun, well, maybe twenty, we begin to realize that industrial momentum for ourselves only, and that fewer and fewer want us to Rebel Galaxy to return. And we’re not even half the game! Discouraging, is not it? They know that to get to the finals we still need at least twice as much time to spend on doing all the time the same, what we have already started to get bored. Good storyline would give us a spur. Or changing environment and natural circumstances. There’s a reason every subsequent act of Diablo takes place in a different setting. Sorry, but space Rebel Galaxy is cute and all, it’s still the same. Perhaps tired. But only after at least a dozen times. Do not forget that. Until then Rebel Galaxy will be awfully nice adventure.
Mainly thanks to a very well executed fight. Awkward, like to play in space, because being played on the two-dimensional plane. No, not like Space Rangers. We see everything in an elegant, aesthetic, spectacular effects charged three dimensions. But we move in 2D. Our ship goes forward, left, right, but not up or down. It is strongly senseless in space, it is a fact, but … work. It works very well. The creators Rebel Galaxy simply adapted the mechanics of clashes seventeenth-century sailing ships. You know, broadside, maneuvers line, these things. And it came out good. Mainly thanks to the multitude of tactical options. The clashes are not that simple as it might seem. You have to combine. You have to move, and not just shoot. And to this are shields, additional weapons and turrets that are supposedly automatic, but we can also assume direct control over them if necessary. We have a lot on his head, and even opponents tend to be different. Sometimes we are pounding the classic battleships and cruisers, where you have to maneuver in front of their nose, so as not to expose the powerful broadside. Sometimes we have to deal with swarms of fighter planes and gunboats. And sometimes the opponent heating means rockets from a distance, to which you have as soon as possible approaches and finish up close. Of course, there are also battle those in which it is all at once. Plus asteroid field, where we do not have freedom of movement. And maybe even to an ally, which must be protected at all costs. Sometimes hot. And it often. In this respect Rebel Galaxy is really excellent. Combats with great pleasure and emotions. And even spoils are! Yes, sometimes with a defeated opponent something we “fall out”. Generally this will be a normal load, something to sell. And sometimes a new fajowy module that can be inserted into our barge. I mentioned that Rebel Galaxy is to Diablo ? Exactly.
It is a pity a little that it is more like Diablo . The whole system improve our ships is in order, including buying new hulls having more guns in the sides and slots turrets. But it is far from riches spoils of the classic action-RPG. Too little of all this it is. And actually there when it comes to the amount of equipment it’s not bad. We have different lasers, rockets, shields, armor and so on. Varieties models and in general. But without modifiers. Without special features. In short, without magic, rare, unique and legendary items. Take for example a laser turret. It may be that a greater range, but weaker radius. It may be quite the opposite. It may be, and one which better penetrates armor, but weaker shields. And one that is harder heats, but quickly overheats. Super. But all this already. Besides, not much is happening. Sure, there are the levels of equipment, the Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and so on. But progress is purely linear, without going crazy. There is something to collect, is what to buy and install on our ever-newer barge. It’s just that without that greedy trembling hands, without the raking and possession of ecstasy. Not like Diablo . Or, as in Space Rangers 2 , which is a game in which not only had the weight of models and modules, but also quadrillion additional modifiers and some special features. They infect us fever, motivate further looting. Maybe next opponent throws something really lovely outside, something of which we eyeballs come out on top! We take for him! Every fight is a bargain! Not here, unfortunately. In Rebel Galaxy beat, cheerfully and pleasantly as possible. But it could be better. More motivating.
Rebel Galaxy is a really nice little game. With a cool climate, such westernowo-frontier, referring to the style of the cult TV series Firefly . And it is also nice, although not very advanced graphical and based mainly on large amounts of special effects, and not elaborate models or high-resolution textures. The game is very nice. But though it is here to do, especially when we open the first gate międzyukładową and set sail on a wide space, it gradually, slowly, step by step, sight, all these things we powszednieją. The game is like a space ship, which has a great engine maneuvering, but poor main. Too little acceleration, too little specific efforts to target. Not enough motivation. Good storyline could make a difference here. And if not, it is a richer, diverse world, who would like to explore. And if not this, then even more powerful, more exciting loot system and upgrade ships. Ideally all at once. Unfortunately, and one, and second, and third is pretty average. And that’s why Rebel Galaxy , which begins so exciting, and that is so cool for the first several hours, precipitates slows the pace and soon it turns out that on very solid foundations mechanics unfortunately not built anything the stunning.
Rebel Galaxy is to do anyway. Especially if they managed to break the play on some promotion. I was playing superbly. Except that less than expected. I really could have been a lot better. It was a classic material. To play even a cult. But in a few key locations just ran out content. Perfectly illustrates this ailment soundtrack of the game. It is brilliant. The songs are great, atmospheric, fantastically catchy. And the first and the second. The entire two. More is not there. Exactly. In Rebel Galaxy is contained so that twenty hours should be enough. Maybe even more. But then the excitement fall and starts to blow and wind from the star class N. boring class. Detriment. Could be better.
- climate as Firefly
- great music
- spectacular visuals
- thoughtful, exciting battle
- multiple layouts, plenty of missions, lots of activities
- new ships and their improvement
- story without spurs
- universe too homogeneous, there is nothing to investigate
- too poor system of spoils
- gets boring long before the end
