He counted only Edge – one of the devices, which with a pure heart can say that something like we have not seen. Now, I can not exactly see it from all sides, but also a touch.

This year, there was little smartfonowych Prime Minister, which aroused in me any emotion except boredom. Another better, bigger, faster, more beautiful phones with displays, frames smaller, more efficient and more capacious battery. That’s it – nowadays it is difficult to really surprise anyone anything.

Looking at the Note Edge, or taking it to the hand, once we are dealing with one particular thought – at about 80%, at least from the outside, the phone such as all (though with very good components and a fantastic screen). Left side is made of a really great (at least to the touch) material, as it is the same as in all other manufacturers – perpendicular to the front and rear panel nicely rounded at the top and bottom edges, and only disturbs the uniformity of the volume button. Standard. On the back is even less to hide – at first glance looks like Note 4. The same elements in the same places, same finishing material. And only one small difference – shut off from the rest of the housing black belt.

This is, as you might guess, a fragment of a belt surrounding the phone, at this point to as “light” and taken to accommodate the biggest surprise Note Edge – screen “slopping out” on the right edge of the phone. Such asymmetric housing needs, or at least should, be controversial, and not just for aesthetic reasons. The first physical contact with the phone is in fact quite a strange experience.

This difference means that for some time, at least initially, it is difficult to believe in our hands that hold the phone properly. This does not mean that the edge is actually Note cumbersome, easy to release or can not hold it at all with one hand. Can be, as much as possible, perhaps even more comfortable than a regular smartphone. The problem rather is that over the years in our hands (for phones) were placed in the most symmetrical products all the time, and something deep inside tells us that “something is wrong”.

Construction of Edge has two, somewhat less important disadvantages. Firstly, raising it from a desk or other flat surface with a unique right side seems to be just weird. Often simply glide your fingers across the surface of the display, rather than undermine it firmly and lift. The second is not so much related to the additional screen surface, which … camera lens. This significantly extends the contour of the housing, which translates into an unpleasant rocking device when using it on a flat surface.

Adding to this lack of symmetry can be quite mixed first impressions. Fortunately, wrongly, because the phone is made almost perfectly, with high quality materials and respect for ergonomics.

Surprisingly, a lot easier to get used to the additional side of the screen. Even though the service requires a change in habits (small size, scrolling up-down and left-right), most of the mechanisms we are able to master after just a few minutes after you remove the equipment from the box. This is impressive, as is the fact that it is not completely niekonfigurowalny gadget, introduced just to show that such a thing is possible. I even have a strange suspicion that I will miss him greatly at a time when you will need to return the phone.

The first, which may initially seem rather strange, is that the “cap” running off the screen shown at times when not in use, does not cover the whole of the curved portion. It presents the classic interface elements, but deployed in such a way that, without moving them to accommodate larger version of the side panel.

Black narrow strip of displaying any selected text we can still develop a simple and surprisingly natural and nice (!) gesture of the right edge or activated automatically in applications that support such a solution. Although not exaggerated remains wide, but becomes wide enough to show quite a considerable column of icons, or (at right angles to the rest of the content on the screen) information, eg. Here, the surprising there are four things. Firstly, even deliberate attempts to “accidentally” pressed the buttons on the side panel palm fail. Fourth, what is perhaps most important, the content displayed in this far from the standard way, they are surprisingly easy to read. Even though it is associated with television information bar, rotated by 90 degrees so absurd displayed at the edge of the TV, this solution works. One glance and know what the weather. One glance and know news from Twitter or exchange, calendar, phone usage statistics or similar.

The same is the case with the speed dial applications or contacts – one hand movement, clicking, and the application is already on your screen. We do not need to go to the main menu, call the grid of icons, search and then click. Of course, the same thing can be done and has been done even on normal screens, but here the panel can always be called with virtually no loss

Adding to this the ability to personalize the panels and additional variations that can be downloaded to the device – it is interesting modern and … just different. Even though surely it is only one of the steps towards a new generation of devices and Note Edge remains absolutely niche hardware, Samsung made sure that this news was not entirely “naked”. Of course, not all applications benefit from this supplement. On the contrary – it uses relatively few positions, and even the chances that developers will begin to him en masse to adapt their programs are poor. This is what we get, however, the factory, easy enough for a long game.

It is difficult at this at first glance to find any (except maybe a bit abstract price) Note Edge defects. Although this is not the last thing manufacture smartphones have to say, but just being another can sometimes be enough, by the way, bringing tangible benefits to users. The issue of mental discomfort associated with an unusual structure probably pass with time, leaving only a great gaming experience with high quality and what we get in return for the lack of symmetry.
