Two days ago, the network appeared on a list of Samsung’s smartphones and tablets, slated for renovation. The point, of course, the latest version of Android, namely 4.4 KitKat. The list was published service Phandroid, citing its sources in the American branch of Samsung. He wrote about it, my editorial colleague David Dlugosz.
What is characteristic of this statement? The presence on it of many models of devices, including the Galaxy S III.
And everything would be beautiful, if not the second list released yesterday by the Polish blogger, Robert Nawrowskiego. Based on local sources, Nawrowski identifies a total of 16 devices that could count on an upgrade. His statement is more accurate than the U.S.. Unfortunately, the key divergence in relation to the U.S. list is the lack of the Galaxy S III. Are you with me?
If you’ve been following the news about the upcoming ponytail, in the last days you can get them to twist the intestines. Perhaps some users Galaxy S III would like today to know what specifically can count. In the end, if further official support not count, you might as well reach for Android with unofficial distribution and be done with it.
Unfortunately, I have called for you. sure thing. But I’ll try to explain how the presence of Galaxy S III on one list and its lack on the other. A clue let it be the same translation of Robert Nawrocki, who writes about the lack of updates for the model with 1 GB of RAM. General confusion about the renovation S3-ki is not, despite appearances, the effect of media diarrhea, but the consequence of policies Samsung. The manufacturer released since launched several versions of the smartphone, which today we managed to forget the marketing winds Galaxy S4 and rumors about the upcoming S5.
if these versions of the Galaxy S III? He counted six, and I’m not sure if something is not missed. Four versions dedicated to hit the U.S. market: I747 (model exclusive to AT & T), T999 (model for T-Mobile USA), and I535 and L710 (CDMA version for operators Sprint and Verizon). In Europe, the Galaxy S III appeared in two versions. Most Popular I9300, which is of poor call classical S3-ka, as well as some lesser-known version of the I9305. The latter is nothing but the Galaxy S III LTE, which is a model offering the ability to use faster mobile Internet. He made his debut on the market in September 2012, so a few months after the launch of I9300.

In Europe, the Galaxy S III appeared in the classic version, and later versions of LTE. The latter is more likely to upgrade
So what’s with this update?
Under the most likely scenario, Android 4.4 KitKat will go to … all versions of the Galaxy S III, that have 2 GB of RAM.
What does it mean? More or less, that all users will get the update S3-ki in the United States, and only some users in Europe. On our continent, and therefore also in Poland, most of the models of the Galaxy S III is a classic version – I9300. Unfortunately, it has only 1 GB of RAM. The smartphone version of LTE (I9305) armed wary because the 2 GB of RAM, so if in the next few weeks will not explode a grenade, it meets the criteria for an update to Android 4.4 KitKat.

In contrast to Europe, all models of Galaxy S III, which were sold in the U.S. had 2 GB of RAM
course, because of the fact that in life some are only death and taxes, the situation may change. Few, however, unlikely that any amendments to the list of Samsung devices ready for adoption KitKat were adjustments to the benefit of users. Assuming of course, that both circulating on the network list are actually “official”. Practice shows that even the “official” is not always in the smartphone industry is “final”.
manufacturers of smartphones have a nasty tendency for official support for cutting when it’s convenient for them. In this case, as reported by Robert Nawrowski, the reason may be the already mentioned too little RAM. Samsung is known for its relatively rapid process of renovation and reduce fragmentation of Android, at least on top models of their devices. Unfortunately, even in the case of the Korean manufacturer comes a point when you have to somehow convince people to buy a newer model of the flagship smartphone.
What remains in this situation? Among other things, Cyanogen Mod CM11, based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The authors of the unofficial modifications somehow does not bother 1 GB of RAM in the Galaxy S III (I9300).
